During the pandemic my Pandemic Activity was getting into vet shows. I have tended to be a human chauvinist in my life -- my childhood pets were fish. I would watch them but not really interact with them much, and I never felt guilty about a fish dinner. But the vet shows have a combination of science, drama, and love which really appeals to me on so many levels from the girl who earned a Bachelor's of Science from a not-bad school to the girl who cried in delight over found family stories before I knew the term.

My second favorite show is Dr. K, because she has bright blue eyes and her clinic is in rainbow-hued Miami, but my favorite is Dr. Jeff and his diverse determined crew in Denver. They're just so awesome. Tonight (after my ordered dinner not showing up, after my not-horrible-but-quite-busy day, after realizing I can't remember the last time I didn't hurt somewhere) I nearly cried while watching an episode all about adoption stories. Interspecies amity found families. Eeeeeee.

Me too! I just recently saw a few episodes of that one. I got into Critter Fixers, Dr. Pol, Dr. Oakley, and all the zoo shows.

Bwee :) I got into and back out of Dr. Pol because while the cases were really interesting and the ahow full of characters it was kind of monochrome, if you see what I mean. I'm a city girl, I guess. :D

You might like Critter Fixers then as it's a mix of city and country and just state of the art vet technology. I remain in awe of those guys. Also, they're in my town, so that's awesome.

Yesterday I left Chun Woo at Animal Farm, where he basically wants to spend his summer, and drove down to Light House where Sheeyun spends nearly all his time. When I came into the house our two kind cats basically ricocheted around in enthusiastic greeting. They are ten and don't ricochet that much.

How are these shows emotionally? As in is there animal death or is it just nice things?

There is animal death maybe once every five episodes (obviously way less than IRL) but almost every case turns out well and all the owners shown are good people (also obviously edited). The people who edit the show are clearly going for a mostly uplifting final product -- both the humans and animals shown are almost all really really lovely souls.

Also they blur the gnarliest parts of the operations, to my frustration and TL's relief (but they do show operations which are sometimes very bloody).

I have a real strong aversion to watching things happen to cats, specifically. For probably obvious reasons.

That makes sense. mostly the pattern with cats is:

Promo: This sick/injured cat needs help! *shot of sick/injured but usually not bloody cat*

Show: Owners bring in cat
receptionist/tech brings them to a room
doctor discusses cat's issue with owners
cat goes in a cage with IVs OR cat goes back for surgery
Surgery features some blood but blurring of the most gnarly parts.
Cat is petted and allowed to recover
Cat is observed, petted and fed
Owners come to get cat
doctor gives owners care orders
cat is petted by owners
owners leave with cat
