This picture didn't quite come out how I wanted it to, and I'm contemplating why.

This is a version of the "Me, My Romantic Partner, and Something Ridiculous" Bed Meme:
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/ah-yes-me-my-girlfriend-and-her-500-dollar-four-foot-tall-mareep

But as you can see my drawing doesn't quite match the original (and all the hilarious parodies) in form factor. I'm trying to figure out how to adjust it. Advice appreciated.

Date: 2022-04-26 10:47 am (UTC)And since you are seeking advice, here's what I think:
- You could reduce the empty space on the bed, especially on the far end.
- The angle of the original pic is more from a side view, and yours is more from above. I feel like part of the visual joke comes from sequencing. Due to the perspective, you first see this guy filling the screen, and then notice the girl in the background, and then the mareep. It has the same beats as the words in the tweet.
- The guy's clearly uncomfortable, intense stare in the photo also adds humour to the piece. So however he's lying down, should mimic him staring into space straight ahead. From a side view, the angle of his eyes work in the original pic, but from a slightly more overhead view like you've drawn, his eyes should really be angled more towards us for the joke to hit, I think.
Let me know if you want to talk about it some more. <333

Date: 2022-04-26 03:30 pm (UTC)I think if I move around the two main images -- Rosie and the boys -- and let her overlap them slightly (maybe I should cut off the rest of the pillow behind her head) and bring her up to the edge of the picture I'll get something more like what I'm looking for. And I could try to redraw her eye/s so she's looking at the viewer.
Thank you for advising me. :D

Date: 2022-04-26 11:20 am (UTC)Other folks have mentioned the angle and the size of the bed. I think the other thing that bothers me is the lack of detail on Frodo's ear–it works for Sam and Rosie because of their hair shape, but it makes Frodo look like he has a bald spot.

Date: 2022-04-26 09:01 pm (UTC)Part of what creates depth of field in the original meme is the fact that Skooch's boy hides part of the other two (likewise the gf and the mareep), clearly showing who is in front of who.
