Well, probably some will, unless women are deprived of academe, and perhaps eventually literacy, for some extended time. Writing women's history has pretty good momentum now, though still insufficient attention, and of course not only women work on it, but if they are more thoroughly removed?

I know Covid has fucked things up everywhere, but when I read stuff like this, it becomes glaringly obvious how much the US sucks at providing a social safety net compared to other industrialized nations. Like, what the hell.

I know people in just this situation and it's so awful.

The pandemic really did lay bare all the inequities in our system. If only people in power who can do something about it will notice.

My member of Parliament notices. She came over from the Ontario Provincial Liberals who were just getting a Basic Income test project up and running when they got voted out in favour of Doug Ford's "Conservatives"...who promptly scrapped it. Among other atrocities. She'd like to follow up, especially with the evidence the federal Liberals now have thanks to the CERB and extended (un)employment insurance benefits and all the other income supports they brought out for that first year and a half of the Pandemic.

The only way it works for us is because my SO is on unpaid parental leave. We are dreading the time when he‘ll go back to work (last request for working part time was denied).

It's already ridiculous how women are expected to work as though they don't have children + don't take on most of the burden of childcare and housework, and the pandemic exacerbated that times 10.

It is really a terrible situation. A lot of structural problems have been exposed during the past few years. We can only hope they will be fixed!
