He did write RENT and would you stop already! Besides, you don't like RENT for entirely understandable reasons. I recently read about a woman who was a member of ACT-UP who doesn't like RENT either.
I recently read about a woman who was a member of ACT-UP who doesn't like RENT either. ...do you mean Sarah Schulman, who wrote an entire book exploring how much Larson lifted from her work for RENT and the larger context of majoritarian culture recuperating and profiting off the experiences of the marginalized?

TL read your comment to me and at first I said, "no, this was in an
interview" but now I wonder if she was the woman whose interview I read.
At any rate, I'll have to look her book up -- thank you for giving me
another opportunity to learn. :)
In one of my favorite books someone describess a terrible thing depicted
in a play that they thought should not be shown, and the person to whom
they're speaking (an actor) says, "but it's such marvelous theater" in
response, and I often feel like both of them in situations like this. Heh.
I read The King Must Die and The Last of the Wine first, but The Mask of Apollo is my favorite Mary Renault and one of the books that was important enough to me to be shelved separately for years.
The Last of the Wine blew my little mind and The Praise Singer is probably the one I identify with most intensely but oh my stars, Nikeratos is a friend.
There is nothing anywhere like The Last of the Wine. It is perfection. I can't quote what I want to because it's such a spoiler, but the end, the revelation of what the narrative structure was, is just, just, there is nothing like it. No one could bear it.
I thought West Side Story was a stage musical? So while one movie of it can be a great work of art, definitive in its time (and it was), another movie will be forking off the same stage work. And so on.
I really enjoyed Tick, Tick… BOOM! I’ve never seen the stage show, but I tend not to be a fan of on-stage narratives in general. The movie took it out of monologue-land and into the world, and did a nice job of it. Plus, the cameos were fun!
Ah, yes. West Side Story. I went to see the movie so many times back in the '50s and early '60s that I long ago lost count. The music is incredible. I still have the vinyl album from way back then. I'll admit it is mostly the music that was the cause of my loving the movie. It didn't hurt that I was living in the Big Apple (Don't mind the maggots.) at the time, although way out in Queens borough.
