Does anyone want to join my father's virtual Bible study? my mother sent me the contact information!

One day I may write an essay about the similarities between Bible study, book club, and fannish meta discussions, but tonight I need to get back to writing a piece of advertising copy. Ughhghghghgg.

And Gerard Manley Hopkins, perhaps, though his would be more of a "want to dissolve my identity into the beauty of the Lord's Creation."

Francis "Hound of Heaven" Thompson comes to mind.

I always thought Hopkins should have been a Franciscan rather than a Jesuit.

In terms of his subject-matter, perhaps. But the complexities of the language suit the whole intellectual thing that the Jesuits had (have) going.

I have been to "bible study" and to torah study, and while they share a body of source material, they are nothing alike. Just in case you were wondering. :-)

As I said to the very earnest young people who invited me to bible study when I was going to the Pasadena City College - you do not actually want me at your bible study. I know what exegesis is. I know how to use it. And I know how to tell when yours is lacking.

I mean, in this case 'you' is 'your father'... /You/ would actually possibly enjoy bible study with me. Your father would likely be annoyed within half an hour.

Especially since as a Presbyterian I believe firmly that the Bible needs to be reinterpreted for each new age. Also that the church should be reformed and constantly reforming.
