Picspam: Christmas in July

While the outage lasted I spent some time organizing my files, and had a wild silly idea to put together a little pic spam from my Christmas folder in my Winter Holidays folder. I first thought of doing Winter Holidays in July, but really none of the other holidays belong to me, if you know what I mean, so it would have been disrespectful. This is just silly.

This reminds me of when I was a child and I put my dolls in the Christmas tree 1) so they could experience it and 2) so they could tell me what it was like being surrounded by the baubles and lights

When I was a child the family had live trees (Araucaria spp of tropical conifers), which grew 30cm a year, and were planted out in the garden every few years as they got too big for the house. We had to give up on trees when we got cats, after one of them climbed it, and brought the whole thing down...

Since then, the family has used a large, decoratively-shaped, dead branch, covered with tinsel, ribbons and ornaments, and mounted on the wall above leaping range.

In my own house I use a dead basil bush (local basil becomes a small shrub, left to itself) hung upside down from the hall chandelier, and decorated.

I meant to write you a ficlet about the dolls climbing the tree and telling me about being surrounded by lights and shiny baubles when I cameto get them.

Yeah Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer has a really Broken Aesop: People will mock you and make fun of you until you can do something useful for them, at which point they'll exploit you ... and you should let them do it, and gleefully just forgive them for having bullied and ostracized you earlier. Fuck that noise.

How you feel about Christmas is NOT ridiculous.
