I'm not sure if it's an artifact of the translation, but the passive-aggressive tone comes across as completely contemporary. I wonder if it's part of the universal human vocabulary.
It's like all those complaints in cuneiform about how the young these days are badly-dressed, immodest, irreligious and do not respect their elders....
When I was 16 or so I found one of those letters in a book about the
Ancient Near East. I photocopied it, sent one copy to my parents, and
pasted the other inside my day planner. :)
