Speaking as a past - and hopefully also future - comic book artist and occasional writer, I agree with you. It does apply to all creative endeavours.

Oh good, good. My parents went back and forth between trying to channel my writing for God's Glory and trying to make me earn a++ by spending even more time on my homework. But, maybe even more annoying, I used to have a poisonous friend who kept telling me to write autobiography rather than the fanfic and speculative fic that make me happy. I'm so glad I didn't listen to her.

I feel like one of my JOBS as your SO is to encourage your creative endeavors, and to encourage you to do things that make you happy and, for want of a better expression, feed your soul. Like, what the actual fuck, who would try to stifle that in somebody?

This is one of the kajillion reasons I love you. Not least after my childhood and other adventures I always appreciate your encouragement, even when (especially) you sigh and say "I have aided and abetted fanfic". Bwee. :)

That is...so extraordinary. Especially when it's a total stranger, or at any rate, not family. Why would a friend or even more, a mere room-mate think that they are entitled to tell someone how to spend their time? Leaving aside complaints about not adhering to the mutually-agreed-upon cleaning roster ...

My creative endeavours are hobbies not my profession, but even so, the only time I have seen people suffer anything like this is from parents, and that was more "you will never be able to make a living from that, please get your diploma/degree/vocational qualifications first," or "please don't resign from your day job yet..".

Which in my view is a legitimate parental concern. But not for anyone else!
