A bit of cynicism and something sweet.
When I realized all the Pride events were going to be canceled this year I thought to myself, "I will miss them, but at least we don't have to see all those heartburn-inducing insincere messages from businesses. I've said in the past that at least seeing those messages indicates which side the businesses' bread is buttered on and therefore indicates progress, but it's still venal corporatism."
... well, the businesses have a new slogan to tack up sideways at the top of the ads. Today I looked on Amazon for something I don't even remember because the Black Lives Matter banner they put up made me laugh myself sick. How about indicating anyone's lives matter by not treating your employees like utter crap?
Anyway. OTOH, this has gone viral:

A very nice man wrote a darling and hilarious review of his baby daughter's play kitchen 'restaurant', and it's gone viral, for several reasons, I think. I think the reminder that there are dads who love their daughters and little girls who like to play with their dads and that this truth is also seen among Black families is a nice bit of reassurance in these dark days. This is relatable and charming and sweetly puts the lie to all the people who say Black people don't have families and don't have men in our families. Plus, omg, she's cute. So cute. I love the followup.

Date: 2020-06-05 07:10 am (UTC)...I have been sorta enjoying the putdowns I've seen on Twitter, where Megacorp X posts about Pride month or BLM and people reply to them like "You fired a model because they were outspoken about discrimination/You don't have employer benefits/" Etc. Less pinkwashing, more actual action!
At least Ben & Jerry's (even owned by Megacorp Unilever) have been great, again.
