Art Post: Dionysos & a Maenad

inspired by songs like "Spring Strathspey" and "Eventide of May" and so on.

I'm pretty proud of the thyrsos even if I didn't decorate it (the decoration interfered with visual clarity).

Not exactly how I'd pictured Dionysos. My mental image of said deity is more in line with classic depictions, with a large, rotund belly not unlike my own. (I do in fact have the body of a Greek god. It's just that particular one.)

That's Silenos his companion. Over time they got conflated, but I'm drawing an early version here. :)

I had to look up thyrsos also. But my dictionary only had the Latin spelling (thyrsus), not the original Greek spelling (thyrsos).
