minoanmiss: Dancing Minoan girl drawn by me (Dancer)

I haven't posted art here in much too long. Both of these were drawn for [community profile] drawesome. The first is SFW an the second NSFW.

Poison Ivy:

Poison Ivy drawn by me

For the 'Villains' challenge. I drew her as I thought she might think of herself, which isn't villainous but protective.

Minoan Mermaid:

Minoan-style mermaid

The spiral was a shape I needed to incorporate into the drawing.

Lovely, both of them, but I especially like the mermaid. That spiral wave design or its squared-off equivalent is of course classic(al).

Oh, I love the Minoan Mermaid, and the spiral waves she's swimming through!

I've always assumed that mermaids only covered their breasts (with those silly stereotypical seashell bras!) when they had to deal with land-people; I'm sure that mermaids consider their scales and their long hair all the "covering" they need.

Furthermore, your mermaid is also culturally Minoan, and would probably consider covering her breasts to be almost blasphemous. Minoan women were proud of their breasts, proud that they had breasts in the first place, and I suspect that Minoan women thought that women of other cultures who covered their breasts were hopeless prudes or something.

How about putting ratings on your stickers and fridge magnets - G, PG-13, and possibly even R if necessary? (I have my own opinion of whether nudity is "immoral", and whether we need to protect people under 18 from the sight of it, but that's a rant for another time and place.) I'd be proud to display your Minoan Mermaid!

Poison Ivy! Nice sense of movement in her pose and with the plants. The Minoan mermaid is beautiful, and the shape incorporation is very clever and fitting!

Poison Ivy is especially intriguing to me when you are considering how she sees herself as opposed to how others see her. I can totally "grok" her seeing herself as a protectress instead of a villain.

I was pondering NSFW - I suppose if you had a big monitor and an "open workspace" (which means "we're too cheap to provide even the tiniest bit of privacy for people") it might be a risk.

They are lovely - the pictures, I mean, not the breasts. (They look nice too but I'm not the kind of person to stare at and rate breasts.)

Villains? As one of the few people who does not get a reaction to contact with poison ivy, I found it refreshing to see her portrayed positively, as a superhero(ine) even.

Just out of curio city, what is with the jewels (?) around your mermaid's waist? So technically she is not naked? [g] A nice touch, if I may say so.

I just noticed that she's even wearing beads around her flukes! (And also woven into her hair.)

The beads around her waist remind me of "belly chains", worn by modern women with bikinis or hip-hugger pants. Everything old is new again ;-)

These are great :)

Here's a fairy for you:

"She smiled at him very graciously when he was introduced to her."

From the chapter, "Princess Orchid's Party"

From the book "Fairies I Have Met" by Mrs. Rodolph Stawell, so beautifully illustrated by Edmund Dulac (French-born, British naturalised magazine illustrator, book illustrator and stamp designer, 1882-1953)

And here's the link to the entire book!
