My radio station of choice is 88.9 WERS, Emerson Radio. Today in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. they are playing songs of power all day. As I started to write they put on Peter Gabriel's "Biko" (which song is how I first heard of Steven Biko).

I like this. I could most wordily explain why, but, really, I think this is an appropriate, expansive, and inspiring way of honoring Dr. King. (so is fighting voter suppression, as the most awesome Reverend Bernice King has dedicate this day and this year to doing.)

I don't think you need to explain- I remember buying that album having heard that particular track on radio. I was a member of the ANC at the time as one of the few ways I could think of to do something positive. :o)

Aw, that's lovely. Radio can still be so powerful. (no pun intended!)

Hopefully The Specials will show up in their playlist, as well.

I take it Emerson Radio is a college station?

When I was at Yale—only the summer school—it was pretty great to hear all the college radio stations that were available in New Haven. This was pre-internet, so we were largely dependent on normal radio transmission.
