Went to see this:
"This exhibition of magnificent jewelry, pottery, sculpture, metalwork, and more from the MFA’s collection of ancient Nubian art examines power, representation, and cultural bias—in the ancient world, in the early 20th century, and today. Through a majestic display of art and objects, “Ancient Nubia Now” confronts past misinterpretations and offers new ways of understanding Nubia’s history and contemporary relevance."
halleyscomet and E came with me, which I appreciated so much! And oh, I could SEEE I could see brushstrokes and chisel marks and ginger marks on pottery and tiny perforations and tinier beads! I could see so much! I was so, so happy to just wallow in all this beauty and knowledge and to delight in the reappraisal of Nubian culture and wealth. I had far too much fun telling little kids and their parents random facts, just because I was overflowing with delight at getting to see so much I've read about for years and years.
That was totally worth it. TOTALLY.
Now I am home chilling out (*waves to people*) and will soon try to do a few necessary things, and just feeling my brain soak up all the beauty I saw today.
