Has nothing to do with cars, and does have quite a few bare breasts.

Did you know that the Japanese name "Subaru" is given to the same star cluster which the Greeks named "Pleiades"?

So I saw this picture of the star cluster, guest starring Venus:

A planet and some stars

And I had a vision. And, considering assorted assortments, I did fairly well at translating that vision into an image.

My drawing of the above

I wasn't quite satisfied, though, so I also made this version:

My drawing, v 2

I like this one, I think. And I hope the astronomer friend I drew it for likes it too.

That's why the Subaru car company's logo is a grouping of six stars with one of them noticeably brighter than the others.

If only they had gone with dancing fairies.

Thank you for the link, considering all the Subarus in my neighborhood. And for an interesting factoid. One learns something new every day if one is lucky.

I Did Not Know That! (tm) Cool.

Also: I like the second one 'cause the sky is darker.

So lovely!

I think they are both lovely and it's so cool--to me who knows nothing about art like things--that in the first one, the eye (my eye at least) is drawn more to the stars and in the second one it's the girls. Maybe because the first one has more stars? They're brighter? IDK... but I like them both... for different reasons because of it. ♥♥

I'm not especially fannish nor filkish, but some of Leslie Fish's songs resonate powefully with my own feelings (this one, "Hope Eyrie", "Ship Of Stone", "Hymn To The Night-Mare", "Berserker", "Lucifer", among others). She even writes songs in a key I can sing in (her vocal range is similar to mine).

I'm with julian on preferring the second one, with the less star-studded sky.

Ok, the Subaru emblem suddenly makes perfect sense now and is even better! Thank you! But now I"m thinking all The Car Guys championing of Subarus was suspect knowing their love of science--maybe the the emblem made them predisposed . . . :-P

This is lovely and joyful! I like the black background of the second, but I love the stars and especially the star shawl of the top figure in the first--makes me think of Varda.

And the academic paper title for this piece is "Subaru: Minoans in SPAAAAAACE!!!!!"

Love it!

Another thing that the Pleiades always reminds me of is a scene from one of the Mary Poppins books, where the second-largest star comes to London to do the Christmas shopping.

It's on page 125 of this version:
