I need a break from Tumblr. What are some other good time wasting websites for me to use to decompress when I get home?

What I like about Tumblr are pretty images and short informative essays. But right now I am apparently not doing well at not taking every rando's stupid opinion personally. SO.

Thank you in advance. :)

I waste spend a lot of time looking at random YouTube videos - sign out of your Google account and reload YouTube, and you get a much more random selection. Here are a few that I subscribe to that might interest you also:

Patty Gurdy, a woman who plays "pirate metal" hurdy-gurdy
Townsend's, recipes and other useful things for Colonial-era re-enactors
The Harp Twins, twin sisters who play very unusual music on twin harps
Food Wishes, all sorts of recipes with a giggle-worthy host
Out On The Ranch with Dr. Lee, a semi-retired veterinarian deep in the heart of Texas
Ilana Yahav, Sand Artist, hard to describe but she uses a lightbox and sand to create a unique form of art

Off-topic, but I saw the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in the supermarket, and this picture is just stunningly beautiful, and I had to find the link and send it to you.

My husband just shakes his head at the randomness of my YouTube selections. (I didn't even mention the science stuff, the woodworker, the blacksmith, the lady who teaches how to put up long hair in interesting styles, the crazy Aussie lady who makes weird desserts, a guy I went to college with who's now a folksinger, the agreeably snarky progressive political commentator, or Willie Nelson...)

I recently read an article about a poll saying that instagram was the most relaxing space on the internet. I will admit I find it nice to look at photos in the evening to calm down. There are plenty of artists out there just putting their gorgeous pictures (or funny ones) there and it is nice to see.

In my experience, online life is stressful. I recommend turning the internet OFF and reading an actual physical, paper book. Libraries will give you gobs of them for free, so they don't even cost anything!

An online site that often has interesting content is Tor.com, the science fiction publisher. Just be sure NOT to read the comments!

And I heartily approve of your taking a break from Tumblr; it seems to stress you out or hurt you way more than it relaxes you.

Also, if you do e-books, sign up for Tor's monthly freebie! Sometimes they're good, sometimes meh, and some I just don't read, but this is how I came to read *The Three-Body Problem* and some other good stuff. And it's free, so you don't have to feel guilty if you bail after a few pages (or never open it)!

I went on a long chain of watching obsessive pop culture disorder videos at Cracked to decompress. They are silly, drama free, and require just enough brain.

I would just suggest unfollowing, blocking and getting Tumblr Saviour (it's so nice, you don't even have to see notifications like "post containing #badness had been hidden, click here if you want to see it" if you adjust it accordingly!) But there is life outside of tumblr (I try and find out what it is, no luck this far).

I like Den of Geek, the original UK site, though avoid their comment sections in every other subject except the Geeks vs Loneliness article series. Those are full of compassion, people sharing their stories and being kind.

For pure time-wasting, there is their List of Lists There are things like upcoming movie sequels but also truly baffling and weird stuff I'd never expect seeing listed!

+ I also like The Nib's comics, especially Gemma Correll's, (hahaha is this relatable to your post?) but be warned that there is also great lots of Orange Menace plus socio- and other politics, so maybe it's not that good for fun and relaxing, hmm.

I second the YouTube suggestion—I can start with music or a vid I like & then wander through the "suggested" list on the right margin for hours. Starting with an artist you like on DeviantArt & clicking on "similar to this one" links is fun too. I admit I'm a hopeless nerd so I also wander through Wikipedia, following interesting links from one topic to another.

Oddly, if I'm in the mood, writing an actual, pen&paper letter or card to a friend & mailing it can be v. absorbing, not to mention shocking to the friend! ;-)

I play Candy Crush. Biggest time waster ever.

I enjoy Instagram (Nat Geo Travel has a gorgeous blog) and I have to echo about YouTube. I love watching fanmade videos (I can send you some of my faves if you like) and there are positive bloggers for Marvel and DC who love the source stuff and don't diss things. I also end up down a rabbit hole for all the little science blogs who do weird experiments. Utterly fascinating (like I learned that you can tell just by dropping it whether a regular battery still has a charge or not -- how cool is that?).

Just never, never, never read the comment threads on anything in YouTube.

I quite enjoy scrolling through the body-positive fashion posts at The Revelist. There is other stuff as well, all pretty short and entertaining and full of people with lots of kinds of bodies.

would creating a second tumblr account and following a zillion cute picture accounts help scratch the itch? or instagram, maybe?

Medium has some good articles and storytelling that all used to be on individual blogs. I spend a lot of time on Instagram, and not just for uploading my own pictures. And tor.com has a ton of blogs, book reviews, and other book-related and fandom-adjacent content.
