Art Post: Cities in Your Eyes

First the art, then the babble.





So awhile ago I saw a painting on the wall of the entrance to Boston's Institute for Contemporary Art, of an anime-style girl with cities in her eyes. Maybe it was the scale of the image that made it work, but every so often I try to draw a girl with a city reflecting in her eyes. Here are two more attempts.

Pretty, but I totally misread this post's title as "Chilies in Your Eyes" and though this would be the world's saddest cooking post.

EDIT: also I am glad this is not the world's saddest cooking post.

I think the darker background works better, it makes the city view really pop. I love her jewellry and hair decoration!

I love the jewellery in her hair! Both pieces are good in their own way, but I slightly prefer the second one because it's more dramatic due to the darker background. Also, so many lovely stars!

I love them both. I think... I like the second one better as a picture, but it doesn't end up reading as a city in her eyes, to me, instead it reads as like... gas giant hanging above the moon that she's on reflected in her eyes.

I'm with tibicina. I didn't know what to make of what was in her eyes. The tops of her eyes are definitely sunny. But considering I've never been to Madrid City, what do I know. Not that I've ever been to Thera, either.
