So, several wonderful people posted images of their bookshelves for me. The least I could do was to post one of mine (with thanks to
gingicat my official photographer). This is dedicated to
amaebi and
lemonsharks!

This is the bookcase by the window. The Snake Goddess statuette is thanks to my friend Intosnarkness @ Tumblr. The shelf behind her contains my smaller Minoan books (not the art books, mostly) and Egyptian books and Classical books. The next shelf down has music (the taller sideways books are songbooks) and the next shelf down has a lot of folklore (including a bunch of Time-Life Enchanted World Series.)
ETA: Here's the other bookcase. I had to edit this one a bit: the red things are blankets on a rack behind the bookcase, as J's bedroom is behind it.

This features a mighty Wonder Woman given me by
petra. The top two shelves have history books. Guns Germs and Steel takes pride of place because putting it like that amused me after the last time I referred to it. (I could write an essay about that book -- time and science march on, but I love it for its premise.) The biggest books on the second shelf are some large Minoan books, an art catalogue and a couple of books about foodways and chemical archaeology. The third shelf has more archaeology and fiction plus.a collection of magazine articles in report covers.
(there are more shelves -- including most of my non-archaeology science books and all the Star Wars books J shares with me-- but then we get to the floor. The cookbooks are in my bedroom because I like to read them in bed. And all of this is a ridiculous amount of babbling in text.)
Hooray for shelfies!

That's the copy I bought back in 2004 when I got into the fandom. :) My childhood Ballantines are on the paperback bookcase, which we did not photograph.

My bookcases no longer look quite as they did, as I did some rearranging in order to drumroll fit more books!

Date: 2019-02-11 04:08 pm (UTC)I need to do some rearranging, so I can bring in a shelf I have brought 300 miles so it could enjoy holding my books.
Thankfully my books continue to find me useful.

Date: 2019-02-12 04:23 am (UTC)I can see most of the above folks are with me when it comes to that button of mine, the one that says "I gave my books their own room. Now they want the whole house.".
Double parked? My "solution" is to use free-standing cinderblock and board bookcases, accessible from both sides. And then put books on their sides on top of the other books.
You haven't seen my place, but I consider you a "talented amateur" when it comes to book owning. :)
Ann O., buying books since before you were born (:-/
