It's gorgeous, and I had never before noticed the difference between the near side and the other faces. I suppose that has to do with the Earth shielding the near side from some bombardment. :-)
The video looked kind of fake for some reason (and yeah, I know it's a composite to begin with). I think it has to do with how the edges are handled; they're neither dimmed nor blurred, and there's no shadowing (as if the camera is the light source.) I guess they would have had to go to extra effort to add that realism.
Actually, the big dark patches on the near side (the "seas") are craters filled with dark lava. I don't know why they're mostly on the near side -- last time I looked it up No-one Knew but they might have figured it out by now.
Huh. I did not know the late (great) Jeremy Brett had written an Arthurian book. Maybe it is not the same one who played Holmes in the BBC series? Lois, being the Anglophile she was, was a big fan of things Arthurian.
Ah, no, Jeremy Brett hasn't written the book, or the script. He only plays King Arthur in this performance. And yes, it is the same Jeremy Brett who played Holmes in the BBC Granada series.

Date: 2019-01-21 11:54 pm (UTC)Did you know John Masefield wrote a beautiful Arthurian Poetry Cycle? I used to give copies out in Holiday_wishes (since it's long out of print).

Date: 2019-01-25 03:55 am (UTC)I do know about Masefield's Arthurian cycle; and do you know who told me? You did! And you sent me a copy of it, too, a few years ago, which I have :)
