minoanmiss: Modern art of Minoan woman fllipping over a bull (Bull-Dancer)

I badgered WD to come with me so I could discuss it with him.
His review: didn't suck.
Mine: I still love it too much to properly review it. I can think of literally only one thing I didn't like, and one I want to defend:

1) I don't like it when movies/TV shows indicate speaking in a non-English language by having the actors speak accented English, and it was especially glaring in a movie where at some points people DID speak other languages, complete with subtitles.

2) Diana and Steve's relationship was the het of my dreams. He treated her like the goddess she is even when he was trying to restrain her, and her amazingness was highlighted by the fact that he was a badass but/and she's that many more levels of badass. I love that their love was one of the loves that inspired her (it wasn't the only one).

Also, WD wants Sameer/Charlie slash. *contempaltes*

My husband and I are seeing it Tuesday night - I already bought the tickets online :-)

And here's the woman who composed the Wonder Woman main theme, performing it herself on her electric cello, and here's where I got that link - an explanation of why that particular piece of music has such a strong emotional effect.

I'm seeing it tomorrow. In probably less than 24 hours, I'll post my own review :-)

I saw it, too, and I liked it a whole lot; I think I probably need to see it again. I think I could probably watch the first part -- the part on the island before the Germans come -- twenty times or so, but I don't have 20x enthusiasm for the rest of it. :-)

I'm looking forward to that! Also to seeing Diana stride across the battlefield as if she owns it. :-)

A lot of moments made me cry, but then, I'm a sap. :-)

When the Germans came onto the beach with their guns, and all those valiant, good-hearted Amazons went up against guns with their swords and bows, I cried at the idea that those brave souls could be wiped out by superior firepower.

I get choked up whenever I think of the last line; I can't get all the way through saying, "The only thing that can truly save the world is love" without tearing up.

By the way, I love it that we're in the same fandom for the moment. :-) (Not that I've left the brave souls of the starship Enterprise behind, mind you. And part of what I love about them is part of what I love about Diana -- that they're unabashedly about doing GOOD in the world, without irony or snark.)

Agree on the non-English thing. It adds something, to hear the original language (well, the Amazons probably speak some deeply linguistic-drift Greek that would have to be made up, so render that in English) when different characters use it, or hear it and do or don't understand it.

Huh, this was kind of a plot where the hero supports the heroine instead of vice-versa, and that's cool. I didn't see anything wrong with that!

Wonder Woman was a delight! I love that she was not objectified, that she was the hero and everything was about her. It's so refreshing to see a different story than the rest which are all so bland as to be identical (if you haven't seen Honest Trailers review of Dr. Strange do watch it. It's hilarious, but also sad.).

I loved Themyscira. Just everything about it was perfect. I would love to see Diana return there at some point.

I adored her and Steve's relationship, that he was a hero and supportive of her from the first. I didn't love that they killed him off because I worry that, unlike every male hero so far, they plan to deny her a love interest. I do hope I'm wrong and I really hope they have a fix-it to bring Steve back to her.

Oh, and as far as the language the Amazons spoke? Apparently, Gal Gadot couldn't manage any accent but her native one, so they made that the way the Amazons spoke and had the others mimic her speech patterns.

My daughter and I are waiting for her return to see it again so that we can go together. My husband and son loved it and I'm telling everyone I know to go see it (including those turned off by the other DC movies).

(Oh, and sorry for spamming your journal with all these comments. I have migrated fully to DW, though I crosspost, and I'm trying to get back into the habit of actually being around. I miss this contact with folks, thus me reading back a bit and replying.)
