Art and fire combine in Gunpowder Art!

https://www.wikihow.com/Do-Gunpowder-Art

I told my big roommates that I would like to do this and neither had much reaction, so I guess they're okay with it. Now to get some wood panels, sponge brushes, and gunpowder!

And an LTC, so you can legally possess the gunpowder. Yes, you need one of those to possess gunpowder in Mass. It's considered "ammunition or ammunition components".

Here's what's going to happen if you try to do this where you live.

The neighbors will see you. They will make a panicked phone call to the fire department "YO SOMEONE IS SETTING SHIT ON FIRE IN THE PARKING LOT." Medford FD will show up, possibly with Medford PD as well. Your explanations that "But this is Art!" will be in vain. At best the FD will tell you to cut it out. At worst, the PD will write up an incident report on this that will get back to Medford's licensing officer. The LO may well consider this a damned irresponsible use of your LTC and revoke it. And there goes something like $250-$300 that you spent to get the darn thing. (Cost of a safety course + application fee)

*sigh*

This is a really, really bad idea, at least in Massachusetts.

With you, I never know.

This does create really pretty patterns of the kind you like. And it is, IMO, possible to do this safely. It's just that in a densely populated area, you're going to scare the shit out of people who aren't aware of what you're doing. If the Mythbusters were doing this, they'd be mixing "blur" with "blur" while cautioning you, "Don't try this at home. We're what you call 'experts.'" And possibly calling in their buddy from BATFE or the Alameda County Bomb Squad.

Did you ever see the comic strip Crankshaft? Whenever Ed Crankshaft was getting ready to light up the charcoal grill, his family would have the fire trucks ready and waiting. The resulting flame usually went up higher than the house's roof.

Also, you look really cute when you're biting the pillow.

Well, yeah. But it wasn't that long ago that a certain biker geek called you his little pyromaniac, was it? Do I see a pattern here?

I've seen it done, and the results can be quite impressive. But you might also be interested in Lichtenberg Figures, which are produced by high voltage on materials such as wood, clear acrylic plastic, and other such non-conductors...

I've seen that picture - I think it was when you posted it here. Nothing that dramatic happened when I was almost struck by lightning as a teenager - although it if had, I probably would have worn it proudly. (once i realized i had mobility problems from the stroke, I bought myself a bright purple metal cane to walk with. It has a wrist loop attached to the handle - I want to go to a bicycle shop and get a purple glitter handlbar tassel to replace the loop!)

They started me off with a walker. I was going to string battery-powered LED lights on it, and I wanted to get an old-fashioned "ahOOGgah!" horn as well :-)

Wow, I can definitely see the appeal. Thank you for introducing me to a new artistic medium. I'm not gonna do it myself, but I'm definitely watching some videos of people doing it on YouTube.

What I *actually* said was “not here.”

Which means that if someone offers you the space to do it (for example, the use of a large well-ventilated concrete room and knowledgeable supervision), I’ll be really disappointed if you don’t take them up on it.

*blink* I have never heard of gunpowder art before. Sounds exciting, in a highly-theoretical sense! :-)
