Neither of these is an April Fools' Day trick. Both are major good news.

Cory Booker sets a record with marathon Senate speech. Will it rally anti-Trump resistance? He wiped out Strom Thurmond's pro-segregation filibuster record, which, well, means extra for a Black American to do.

Susan Crawford wins Wisconsin Supreme Court race, defying Elon Musk Musk poured tens of millions into this race to poison it against her, and symbolically against Democrats, and his dingleberry candidate still did not win. Well done Justice Crawford!

My husband and I listened to Booker at different times, and sent comments to his office. He happens to be my senator. And when he was mayor of Newark, he was out jogging one day, and he heard screams coming from a nearby building. He went to look, the building was on fire, and an old woman was yelling for help because she wasn't able-bodied enough to get out of the burning building. Booker carried her to safety BEFORE calling 911. Listening to him read all the stories people had sent him about the hardship they're going to be in with the DOGE cuts... Cory Booker is a mensh.

FANTASTIC.

(I had seen the news about Cory Booker: I had not seen the results of that race.)

I was so scared to check the Wisconsin race, but then someone posted on Bluesky that AP had called it for Susan Crawford. I am So delighted and also vengefully smug.

Cory Booker has annoyed me in the past and could do so again, but just now I stan him utterly.

P.

It was so good to hear such good news! Booker told Maddow he had been "irked" at horrible Strom holding the record for a long time, which delighted me.

As someone familiar with cutting food and fluids, the idea of staying standing in that state and monologing for 25 solid hours gives me the horrors. Good on Booker.

Booker played football in college, and keeps a vegan diet and jogs and exercises as much as he can - being a senator is usually a sedentary job. Apparently he didn't use a leg bag for urine, but he did drink water during his speechifying. And someone said he complained that his feet hurt - standing up, even pacing back and forth, for more than 24 hours will put quite a load on your feet. I hope he went home, took off his shoes and tie and clothes, drank more water, ate a light but nourishing meal, and slept for twelve hours. Also, Senator Booker is rather young for a US senator - he's "only" 65. Thurmond was 80 or more when he set the record for longest continuous speech.
