People join or support authoritarian movements on the belief that they'll be in the "in-group"--that they'll be the ones to profit from the outgroups' losses. What they don't realize is that the in-group becomes smaller and smaller over time, and that no matter how solid their claim to in-group membership is, eventually, the leopards will eat their faces, too.
Appreciate you posting this! Yays for my state's Governor and for various progressive Illinois laws (like being the first U.S. state to oppose the onslaught of book bans).
I was born and raised in Illinois and have always lived in Illinois...and current events keep making me glad for being in this part of the country.
