Someone is wrong on the Internet once again.

So some sealion said, "... but isn't DEI actually racist?" I replied, "No it's not and you know why you sealion," and blocked them. But it was bugging me, so let me dump out my brain into my journal.

So. A thousand people have written posts like this. This is my version.

DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Here's an oversimplified metaphor about what people think DEI is vs what it actually is. I could write this about many demographic sets of three, but this particular set seems quite pertinent right now.

Picture a White man walking down a road.

Walking with him, slightly lagging, are a Black man and a White woman. Each of them has a cuff attached to one ankle with a ten pound iron ball attached to the cuff.

(A little ways back is a Black woman with cuffs and weights on both ankles but we won't talk about her right now.)

DEI, in practice, is not removing those weights. It isn't even moving the people wearing the weights up the road a few extra steps, though that's what people often envision it as being. It is merely taking notice of the weights and saying, "Remember, these people are wearing weights which makes them walk a bit slower than they otherwise might."

And this acknowledgement, says His Orangeness and all his followers, is destroying the country.

What drives me crazy is this whole things about "They (always They) are getting a free ride they didn't earn" blah blah is such BULLSHIT. There's a waiting list for public housing here that is YEARS long! And public housing is for SHIT! And even with DEI, what percentage of ppl who aren't white males are CEOs or dept directors or college presidents? It's TINY. But their rhetoric is like that Black trans women are going to be breaking into school bathrooms idefk. It's insane. It's literally a deranged view of reality.

More folks need to remember that the acronym should actually be DEI&A.

An average White American sees DEI as taking those weighted-down black and female people and LIFTING THEM UP AND PUTTING THEM TEN MILES AHEAD of the unimpeded white guy. "Why did that white kid with decent grades not get into Stanford, when that minority kid got a scholarship?" They see it as giving the minority people PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT. And the hysteria about "why is the fire chief a lesbian" leads to people thinking that ALL MINORITY PEOPLE must be illiterate and mentally impaired and completely incompetent, and lacking any skills outside of violent crime and eating. So don't give them real jobs, because they'll just fuck things up, like letting a fire get out of control, or failing to perform the duties of an air traffic controller and causing a plane crash. We can't allow any of those inferior "DEI" people to exist in our nice clean country, except when we need crops harvested or toilets scrubbed.
