You know, the fact that the country I live in has decided that any woman or Black person with a non-lowest-level job is a "DEI hire" who cannot possibly be as competent as any White man whatsoever is starting to hurt my feelings. Especially my palpable rationality. It wasn't true when I was 17 and they said I got into college due to Affirmative Action rather than my 3.9 GPA and pile of activities, and it's not true about this aviation disaster now.

No, it's not true, and it's a disgusting attack. Hair Furor went after people of color, women, people with mental illnesses, people with intellectual disabilities, and people with dwarfism, FFS. I was listening to that live on the radio yesterday while I was driving to an appointment in Milton, and I started yelling at the radio. Nearly blew a gasket, I was so angry.

The thing that offends me the most is the assumption that anyone who was hired in order to satisfy a DIE quota wasn't hired because they demonstrated skill and ability, so therefore anyone who was hired because of DIE is THEREFORE incompetent and unskilled and unfit for any imaginable job. As if only straight white males of unquestionably American ancestry can possibly be skilled at ANYTHING. And having had to fight "Women/girls can't possibly do that!" most of my life, I know how ridiculously unfair it is. And the corrollary is the old lie that Affirmative Action puts political correctness ahead of ability, and therefore discriminates against white people.

I can name one white American male who is utterly unqualified for any job at all...

Once upon a time, my husband and I were giving my High Priestess a ride somewhere, and we came to a patch of road that was flooded from heavy rain. Our car was capable of handling it, and for some reason I was sitting in the back seat with Judy, and we inched our way through the water. She was terrified, so I just held her hand until we were across and back on dry land. I knew she wouldn't take it the wrong way - she was bisexual (actually more or less omnisexual). And there's an old joke:

"Her name is Yolanda, and now we're friends , so it's not so scary." I've always loved that story - it shows how children instinctively apply love and "neighborliness" to life.

One of the soldiers in the helicopter was a woman - not the trans woman the news mentioned, just an ordinary female soldier. The military has discovered that anything a male soldier, sailor, Marine, or air force or coast guard person can do, a female can learn to do just as well. Gee whiz.
