Save It For Later
Eddie Vedder
Two dozen other dirty lovers
Oh, must be a sucker for it
Cry, but I don't need my mother
Just hold my hand while I come to a decision on it
Sooner or later, your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it for later, don't run away, don't let me down
Sooner or later, you'll hit the deck, you'll get found out
Save it for later, don't run away and let me down, you let me down
Run away, run away, let me down
Black air and seven seas, all rotten through
But what can you do?
I don't know how I'm meant to act with all of you lot
Sometimes, I, I don't try
I just na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Sooner or later, your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it for later, don't run away, you let me down
Sooner or later, you'll hit the deck, you'll get found out
Save it for later, don't run away, don't run away and let me down
Run away, run away, let me down
Run away, run away, let me down
Run away, run away
Two dozen other stupid reasons
Why we should suffer for this
Don't bother trying to explain them
Just hold my hand while I come to a decision on it
Sooner or later, your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it for later, don't run away and let me down
Sooner or later, you'll hit the deck, you'll get found out
Save it for later, don't run away, don't run away and let me down
Run away, run away and let me down
Run away, run away, let me down
Run away, run away, let me down
Run away, don't run away, don't run away
Don't run away, don't run away, don't run away
Don't run away, don't run away, don't run away
And run away, and run away, and run away, and run away
Why don't you hold me?
Why don't you hold me and kiss me now?
Why don't you just hold me?
Oh, hold me and kiss me now
Run away, run away and let me down
Run away, run away and let me down
Run away, run away and let me down
Run away, run away and let me down

Date: 2025-01-12 05:24 am (UTC)But every now and then I come across one that impresses me. A few weeks ago I was in the car and listening to one of my rock stations, and Daughtry was doing an interview. I was like “ehhh” because none of his singles I’ve heard have grabbed me. Then he said, “I’m going to do a cover of Change (In The House Of Flies),” and I was preemptively aggravated because that’s my favorite Deftones song. Like I probably listen to that song two dozen times a week, every week, and it’s in my top five songs to sing (all the rising notes and changes in vocal timbre are a pleasure).
But then.. credit where credit is due, Daughtry did a unique version and did a damn fine job of it. It’s not better than the original, but it’s great in a different way.
(I don’t think this live version sounds quite as good as the one he did on the radio, but it’s the only one on Youtube of him doing this cover.)
