I should post a picture of the new banister. Today was More Joy Day, which I forgot to make anything for unlike my creative and industrious friend
petra. But I did have a day at work that, while busy and sometimes frustrating, gave me multiple chances to do my favorite thing about my job which is to sincerely help people through a less than pleasant task. A woman told me, "you helped me so much more than I was expecting. I really appreciate that."
Also my last call of the day was a BARITONE 13 year old, omg. TINY BABY WITH A BIG VOICE.
I spent my lunch break taking a sunny ride to Medford ^2 to drop off my three bags full. My Lyft driver clearly approved of the errand *beams* And the kiosk was pretty close to empty so I'm extra glad I can get some stuff into it. I really wanted to deliver the gloves and hats before the incoming weather and food is always needed. I hope some people have found things they can use.
Meanwhile, our landlord, the only good landlord west of the Mississippi [1], sent a nice man to fix the holes I broke in the hallway plaster by leaning on the wall when coming down the steep stairs. (He in turn brought another nice man with him to help.) RK pointed out that a banister on that side would be a good idea, rescuing plaster and making me safer, while I hadn't said anything about one because I thought it would be too much trouble. But Landlord decided it wasn't and they put in another banister for me! Because of RK, Landlord, and these two nice men I feel safer and more secure. I reaally appreciate that.
The saga of the First Heater is probably over. WD came over while I was napping, retrieved it, and came upstairs to say hi to his 90% asleep girlfriend. *beams*
Today was in many ways a kind day and I very much appreciat that.

Date: 2025-01-11 04:50 pm (UTC)I get up and down the stairs in my house by leaning on my cane and the fairly standard but sturdy banister. I once pulled the mounting bracket for the banister out of the plasterboard at one end. I just bought a new bracket from the hardware store and installed it myself. My landlord has been pretty good since we've been here. He knows we've been homeowners, and we know how to repair simple problems lie a hole in the plasterboard or a dripping faucet or a broken light switch. He borrowed a generator from his pals in the volunteer fire department during Sandy, because the gas-fired furnace won't work without electricity for the circulating pump, so we had lights and internet.

You've got me wondering if Lyft and Uber have considered programs to fund errands like yours. They could write it off as a charitable donation and score PR points. And since it wouldn't involve delivering a person, the driver would only have to drop it off sometime before the end of that day's work -- something to take care of during a slow period.
