Yay my birthday. :)
I spent today slowly cooking a dish of chicken, duck, and rice (next time toast/roast the rice), and another dish of Pigeon with baby potatoes and chayote/mirliton squash. (I covered the pigeon with steak sauce enhanced with beef boullion, green jalapeno hot sauce, lime juice, ginger, and a couple of pinches of allspice. I'm pretty pleased with how well that approximated Jamaican Pickapeppa sauce).
lb_lee came over, and so did WD, and we also had S's sweetie E as well as S and RK and I, and wwe had a marvelous time. RK gave me beautiful purple gin and WD gave me a roaster dish dish-shaped electric heater and I gave myself big fat carrot cake for dessert, woot woot.
We unpacked my gifts from work (corporate) and my parents (surprisingly nonhorrible -- no perfume, Bible study guides, or awful clothes, and a scarf I actully like!)

12 or so baby potatoes, cut in halves 2 mirlitons, peeled, cored, and cut in large bite size chunks 4 shallots, peeled and cut in quarters 2 green onions, sliced crosways about 1/2 inch thick (I would have used 4 if I had them) 1 tsp tajin seasoning 1-2 tsp green hot sauce 1-2 green goddess seasoning (I wanted a lot of green flavor under the brown surface) 1-2 tsp bottled lime juice 1/2 tsp freeze dried ginger 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper 1/4 tsp freshly ground allspice 1-2 small birds 1 10 ounce bottle steak sauce
Put the veg into a baking casserole with a tight fitting lid. Mix all the other ingredients together except the birds. Coat the birds inside and out with the sauce, place atop the veg, and scrape the rest of the sauce into the pan atop the birds. Lid up and bake at 225 for 6 hours, 225 for 4-5 hours, or 350 for 90 minutes-2 hours.

That said, if by some chance they did they wouldn't refuse to buy the scarf unless it explicitly supported LGBTQ themes. I will say one thing for my parents: my father's reaction to the rainbow flag was "those [slurs] will not take the rainbow from us and from God" rather than "rainbows are [slur] symbols and if you draw one you'll get beaten". It could have been worse! ahahahahaha
Anyway I have carefully tried my best to tell my parents about no one but you in connection with my love life. And I think my mother at least might classify sex the way Queen Victoria did. And I'm going to go have a drink now.

Date: 2025-01-03 03:13 am (UTC)On my birthday I asked my husband (he's the one who got taught how to use the air fryer) to make some chicken nuggets for me. He got them to actually be COOKED ALL THE WAY THROUGH, not scorched outside and raw in the middle. And just now, he cooked me a smashburger the way I wanted it - very thin, so it would cook quickly, and cooked until it looked "too burnt to be edible" to him, which means it was ACTUALLY COOKED - Maillard reactions and seared texture. So he now understands what "COOKED" means; anything that isn't cooked long enough and hot enough doesn't kill all the bacteria, and eating it will give people food poisoning. He now just knows he has to keep it on the fire for a while more before serving or eating it.
