A young man with a deep voice called to make an appointment for himself to switch clinics: he is now too old for pediatrics and needed to "graduate". He was very self collected and polite and an absolute delight to talk to and it was just a very pleasant interaction. I wanted to tell him "I'm proud of you" at the end, hahaha.
So that was nice.
So that was nice.

Date: 2024-11-12 10:37 pm (UTC)My son's been seeing pediatric endocrinologists at Boston Children's for many years, he's been taking most of his appointments on his own for a while, and they've started telling him he needs to find a new clinic.

(I held on to my pediatrician for several years beyond the point of strict chronological accuracy, but he was both the doctor I have had in my entire lifetime who knew and believed my body the best and had studied Icelandic sagas before switching to med school, so he was generally cool.)

I loved that discussion when I first saw it but it got even better!
"Amoy Fullerton, a fourth-year med student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham just set up a way for people to help black fourth year med students transition to their residencie. This often means moving to a new city where they won't get a paycheck for weeks. Black students are also less likely to have access to generational wealth to keep them afloat during school. So if you have a few bucks and want to buy a graduation gift for a future black doctor, check out this article or search #medgradwishlist on twitter."
