After reading countless posts on Tumblr about how We Must reach out to Trump Voters and Never Say A Cross Word to a Boy or That Justifies His Following Andrew Tate, I read, via a friend, about a teenage girl whose boyfriend blinded her. Which is a deliberate understatement of what he did to her.

This is me not posting this to Tumblr and challenging people to defend the boyfriend and explain why this young woman deserved the attack. Do Not Ask Questions One Does Not Want The ANswers To and all that. But I know I'd get some replies from some people who think they're clever.

I think you are reading the wrong people. In that they are both wrong, and not representative of the not-right.

It’s not that I’m seeing pristine takes. It’s that those are not the bad takes I’m seeing at this epoch. Nor the takes: I am seeing statistically better takes at this epoch.

I'm definitely reading the wrong people while looking for the right people. I can hope that everyone insisting that Women Drive Boys Into The Alt Right by Being So MEEEEEAN to The Poor Boys were all gathered into that massive flamewar from the other day.

ETA I realize that sounded snarkier than I meant it. It really would be good if everyone with that opinion were collected in one place.

I am also seeing better takes. Often not GOOD takes (I didn't know what to say to the guy who proudly declared himself a second wave feminist, clearly expecting me to agree that the first wave had not gone far enough), but better.

I'm not big into the waves discourse anyway. Women have been working for liberation forever. Occasionallythey/we get heard for a bit.

I still can't quite believe it. I'd rather it was some sick joke.

It was hard not to become an angry feminist in the 1960s and 1970s. Everything that was wrong with society seemed to be things men did. Fighting wars, participating in random street crimes, raising prices, telling women to "shut up and do what we tell you", idolizing women with surgically enhanced figures, "beautified" faces and hair, and dressing in clothes no sane woman would wear in public. It's as if all the incels in the world decided to turn ALL THE REST OF THE MEN into incels.

And what about "female" incels - we're so ugly and undesirable nobody will date us. (Unless we use the old trick of trading sex for positive attention from men.) Should we begin to systematically deny men basic human rights? Should we rob small businesses for money to buy alcohol and drugs? Should we make erection pills unaffordable? (Or apply sales tax to them the way they tax tampons and napkins?)

I have also been seeing those Let's Coddle Boys Lest They Hate Women sentiments on tumblr, and they make me feel uneasy. I know it's probably not as widespread as my feed makes it feel, I just need to seek out other voices. but still, *sigh*.
