Why are advocates of "free speech" saying they will vote for a man who keeps threatening and suing news agencies?

Because it's not so much free speech as it is freedom to be hateful out loud with no consequences.

They're not using logic and they're focused on their individual hate.

This. "Free Speech," to these people, means "we get to say whatever we want without any consequences and nobody can ever be mean to us." With a lot of those folks, if you start out talking about free speech, somehow they almost always end up shifting it around to how "Black folks can say the n-word and we can't!" and what kind of freedom of speech is that and that's SO UNFAIR. See also how bent out of shape those folks (who say"fuck your feelings" when people complain about Trump calling people vermin, garbage, enemies of the state etc) get when someone says an unkind word about them. Thin-skinned bullies who want to live without consequences for their words and actions.

The free speech they want is the supposed right to be as hateful as they want without criticism. So to them, it isn’t a contradiction, because in his world they’d have their bigoted free speech and anyone else would be silenced from opposing it.

You look upon them as one who fails to understand their greatness, they are the proper judges and arbiters.

because it's not free speech they care about, nor any other principle -- it's just themselves. they care about themselves.

the thing they care about least of all is whether they're being hypocritical. this is one reason why i can't watch the daily show or other things like that anymore: that genre of comedy spends a lot of time going "ah ha!" at the right wing for having double standards, but the right wing has never cared about their own double standards and never will.

Because the noisy guy wants freedom for HIM to speak anything he wants to say about anybody else, no matter how untrue or inflammatory his statement is, without causing any consequences to HIM, because he created the entire universe out of his belly button. Isn't that what everybody wants? The freedom to slander and libel and make baseless acccusations and insults, without such being flung at yourself?

No, that's not what rational people usually want. And I do understand about "security risks", because I had to work within that kind of environment once. And as a mother I knew why I had to put tricky plastic latches on the cabinet under the sink.

But I generally don't self-censor any more than I need to survive.
