1) I'm really glad my coworker taught me to say "Un momento por favor". as soon as people hear my atrocious accent they know to wait for the interpreter and don't try talking to me, which helps me not waste their time.

2) I have a sweet little-girl voice so sometimes men try to flirt with me, which is hilarious. I should draw one day the contrast between who they're imagining and Actual Me.

3) This job actually takes advantage of my education, especially in voice lessons. Ahahahahahah. Am tempted to say as much to my parents (who did not want me to take voice lessons) but I will not.

I was already working on improving my voice for radio when i got my first job as a receptionist. My speaking voice is rather low-pitched, and a lot of the people who heard me answer the phone wondered about the sexy voice on the phone. When people came to the office and saw the fat stringy-haired frump with glasses behind the desk, they were frightfully disappointed.

"Momentito, por favor" also works.

(Voice lessons rock. I only sometimes got anything productive out of them at the *time*, when I was 16, but it gave me some good basics for Eventually, Down The Road.)

When I worked in radio, I was told someone had pictured me as tall, dark hair & eyes, willowy, and buxom.

They got the buxom part right.

I didn’t know you took voice lessons! I am a compulsive singer. I’m not especially good, just passable. But I love it soooooo much, it’s the best thing ever.

When a sing-along of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” breaks out, there you are to supply the soaring descant!

(The work not of that prolific songwriting team Trad and Anon, but of South African composer Solomon Linda—whose estate had the devil of a time getting the Mouse Empire to admit as much. Here’s the original Zulu version from 1938; the “lion sleeping” is a metaphor for Shaka Zulu as the legendary hero who will return in time of need:

Haha!

Keep that atrocious accent! When I was living in Italy, my accent improved much faster than everything else. So I'd say, 'excuse me, where's the market?' in decently-pronounced Italian, and the answer'd be sooooo much faster and more complicated than I was ready for!
