minoanmiss: Poe Dameron as a bull-leaper (Poe Bull-leaping)

I should've written this awhile ago.

1) One reason I adore my workplace is that every communication about this weekend/today called it IPD. WOOT.

2) I had a pretty good weekend. I went from half done with the Get Out The Vote postcards I've been writing to 80% done, and similar numbers on the Halloween Cards.

3) All weekends should be at least 3 days long

4) I didn't want to mention The Previous Holder of The Date and I don't feel like adding links at the moment, but there is News that he was Actually Jewish (or rather at most had some Jewish ancestors). The News appears to be pseudoscience conducted by a non-expert and not peer reviewed in any way. I disagreed with someone promoting it, then decided that since their main reason was to poke his Italian-American fans, rather than to blame his atrocities on Secret Jewish Awfulness I would not continue arguing with them. I do worry about people doing the latter, though. Also the science looks seriously shoddy and it is never a good sign when supposed researchers refuse to have their work reviewed or even to explain which tests and methodology they used. Even I know that.

5) Related to the middle of the above, I am increasingly trying to stick to the most successful resolution I've made: when I want to flame someone, I find someone else who deserves praise and praise them. Tonight I saw a lovely post by a transwoman, comparing before and after (during) her transition, and in both photos she wore a (different) shirt of the same dark green. I PMed her a joke that her transition caused the shirt sleeves to shrink, and she replied, "Took me a year to get those sleeves to come off" and I giggled helplessly. :D And I thanked her for sharing her happiness and beauty with us, and she thanked me. So that was a good moment online.

Now to try to get to sleep because tomorrow/later today there is so much to do.

Re 4): I saw the headline but was already aware there were various theories about where That Dude was from, none of which are taken seriously by historians, so I didn't follow up. Thanks for checking that it's not real evidence.

That tactic about praising someone worthy instead of raging at an asshole is so great <3

Regarding finding someone to praise instead of flame - that's like "when you're feeling helpless, ignored, and mistreated - go find someone to help. Serve food in a soup kitchen. Take those old clothes that don' t fit you any more and take them to a thrift shop (or drop them in the bin in the supermarket parking lot.) Or organize a group of neighbors to go Christmas caroling when the time comes.

That transwoman sounds like a beautiful person - using clothing to express how her transition makes her feel. That's why I squee with delight when I've touched up the purple dye on my hair - I look like ME again!

People are working towards a standard four-day work week - it improves productivity and employee morale. The forty-hour seven-day work week was created to make workers conform to the needs of the industrial machinery, which can't be shut down and restarted quickly.

Here's a LISThttps://4dayweek.io/countries of civilized countries who have implemented four-day work weeks without destroying their economies.

And a four-day school week is the next step. Children are overseen in school during the hours when their parents have to work. Seasonal vacations are provided to give children and workers a longer break from their daily labors. And in many places (notably Japan), the first few years of school are devoted to teaching children simple life skills - how to make a bed, how to wash dishes, how to sweep floors with a broom. Intellectual studies like math and grammar and logic come later. The children prepare their own meals during the day and clean up the schoolrooms before they go home. How many American children don't know how to feed themselves, other than pouring dry cereal into a bowl? (And think of the children who look less than 3 years old toasting flatbreads and maybe stir-frying pork slices and eggs for breakfast in China.)

My mother very deliberately taught me to cook a simple breakfast of bacon, scrambled eggs, and toast when I was tall enough to reach the top of the stove safely. I remember how proud I was one evening when my mother was a poll worker for the election, and my dad got up to go to his job on the night shift, and I cooked "breakfast" for him. (and he showed me how to fry an egg, which he preferred over scrambled But he and I liked our toast the same way - very dark.).

I have seen people be concerned about 4 really being about the Secret Jewish Awfulness. Yes, it's shoddy science, but with the state of science education these days.....

I, too, will be adopting the “I’m not saying you’re an asshole, I’m just going to change the subject to this other person being awesome.” It appeals to my needs for:
• mental health
• not rewarding bad behavior
• control of my wayward attention
&
• spite

You can run an entire human off of these needs, and I often do, so your tactic will be helpful!

Early voting began on 15 October in Georgia—meaning that former President Jimmy Carter has not only reached the century mark but lasted long enough to vote for Kamala Harris:
