Carter was one of the better ones. And I respected him when he was dealing with the reactor accident at Three Mile Island. He had been a nuclear propulsion engineer in the Navy (like my friend the Sea Dragon). Giving a news conference at the reactor site, he said the word "Nu=Clee- Er" perfectly . He was enough of an engineer to give up the folksy peanut-farmer persona in favor of technical accuracy.
And he seems to have internalized Fred Roger's basic principle: Be neighborly with your neighbors.
