Typical Republican, "If an issue doesn't affect you directly, then why do you care about it?" BECAUSE EMPATHY IS A THING, NUMBNUTS.

The Right also have a lot of single-issue voters, but for them, it's "If I can't have whatever guns I want, then I will absolutely vote for anybody else." And that's been true as far back as I can remember: If a Democrat is a single issue voter, then that issue is abortion/reproductive rights. If a Republican is a single issue voter, then that issue is gun rights.

It's why so many of them only find themselves moved to give a shit about the LGBTQ+ population if their child or sibling comes out.

Older women are concerned about their daughters and granddaughters having access to reproductive medical care. We old granny witches provided contraceptives and abortifacients when necessary (and also potions to improve fertility for both genders). So we don't want to have to go back to unregulated herbal medicines and brute-force procedures. We want our descendants to be taken seriously, and to have their needs considered in national policies. Seeing a woman run for President and get elected is a dream many of us have had since our girlhood. The Iroquois knew what they were doing when they had the tribal grandmothers select the candidates for tribal leadership - they probably delivered those men as babies, and watched them grow up, and knew who would become capable leaders of their people.

I love Lyz Lenz! And omg that Diddy article. There was a piece on R Kelly that I read a few years before he finally went down, that extensively quoted a Chicago journalist who'd been reporting on his abuse for years. And they were basically like, "I hadn't realised how little the world cares about black women before I tried to make them care about this." Just heartbreaking.
