I guess now we know why he's so nice -- all the meanness went to his brother. I admire his mother's diplomacy. I really don't admire those whatever-removed cousins who decided to crawl out from under a rock and put on "walz for Trump" t-shirts.

Date: 2024-09-07 06:45 am (UTC)I’m seeing this going around: I don’t know who the originator was:
“Don't damage friendships over politicians who don't even know your name. You can have differing political views and still treat each other with kindness and respect.”
I think that’s a fine way to admonish oneself. Though odd to do so in a public post.
Though it burkes the issue of politics which make the elimination, enslavement, or imprisonment of demographic or political groups as such. Those are politics that do make me feel different about their holder.
I have a lot of doubts about that meme as admonishment of others. Are your standards for others symmetric with your standards for yourself? And if they are, does that standard prioritize silence on all topics deemed political?
Someone who insists on such silence is also someone I feel differently about.
