If you go to Somerville Open Studios, check out Hilary Scott's house; he has (among *many many* other amazing things) some very funky kitchen bookshelves at very interesting angles.
I think it’s adorable! Since you asked, this is the upper half of mine (because most of the rest of it is blocked by a huge HEPA filter unit). My bookcase is, in addition to holding books, also my collar storage (I do leatherwork and am constantly making new collars; this is most of my collection) and my “small item that means something to me” storage.
[Image description: the upper 2 1/2 shelves of a tall bookcase. The very top edge has nails driven into it and roughly twenty collars hang from the nails, creating a curtain that obscures the books behind them (which is useful, because those are the smut books). The shelf beneath contains various decorative boxes and jars and other items with sentimental value, as well as a box of anatomy flashcards. The books on that shelf are reference books on Italian, sewing, falconry, pharmacology, the sociology of fear, chronic illness, gardening, and Art Deco, plus one volume of poetry. The book titles aren’t visible on the shelf below because the picture cuts off, but there’s enough visible to see that there’s also a stuffed animal of Oogie Boogie on the shelf.]
It’s nice because it’s close to my bed, so I see all my things when I wake up.
The Narnia and Borrowers sets visible at the left side of the shelf were given to me by my mom when I was little, and they have inscriptions from her. Although I haven’t read them in ages, they’ll always stay on my shelf. :)
