When I woke up this morning I did not expect my afternoon to include my overboss standing grumpily in my office because he was getting hangry, but here we are. A heat wave is rolling in so he decided premptorily I and my equipment were going home today. I'm still on training, which I totally don't mind because I love my trainer. She is such a delightful girl. When we're done I'm inviting her to dinner. But I digress.
I am of at least two minds about all this. On the one hand I am SO GLAD TO BE HOME but on the other I feel really bushwacked. The house was not as I would have had it for company, because I had planned when in the week I was going to straighten it up, and I generally didn't love rolling with the unexpected with people my livelihood depends on. But sometimes one has to deal.
So home I went, packed into a car with Overboss R, Boss E, and Bigwig M who came along for the ride. When we arrived, S, worth all the gold in christendom, came towards this chaos rather than hiding in his room, and helped immensely. But of course no move happens without incident. First I couldn't log in. Called IT. Then my camera didn't work. Called IT again. By the time I got online I only had time to deal with one patient phone call. Which was:
E mentioned that she heard from W, Office Director of Pediatrics (remember her) that I "scheduled an adult patient with pediatrics". You know how people always put things in the worst way possible? What happened was, we had these virtual new patient appointments (as in, televisits, not in person), and at one point all the primary care doctors were on a list to be randomly assigned to them, a list which required individual doctors tobitch and complain request to be removed from. I made such an appointment and he randomly assigned doctor was the Head of Pedi, who of course had to act like I had signed up a grown man with her for an in-person physical or something. But I straightened that out with only a little eyerolling, ate something and went to bed for several hours.
Whew. Tomorrow I am not allowed to punk out of my doctor's appointment just because of the heat. ANd I get to get up an hour later than I have been! Woot woot!

Date: 2024-06-18 01:39 pm (UTC)FWIW, I know I was joking about invoicing your employer for "IT Consulting Services" ($250/hr, minimun 4hr billing for a site visit)...but one of the things kicking around the back of my head as I helped you with this was, "Am I helping out MM, which I truly don't mind and even enjoy, or am I performing unpaid labor for MM's employer, which is kind of unfair?"
