First Art Post: Five Fairies

Well, five pictures of fairies/fairy-like things interacting with humans. I've been thinking about fairies as symbolizing bright spots of color/magic in duller, Muggle lives.

Some people seize this color and cheer by force:




Some are gifted it:




Some seduced by it:



This is a riff on the concept, an Ancient Greek woman communing with a butterfly-winged Minoan soul:



And then there's this little girl, deliberately as bright as the fairies around her.

Why does the last one have a copyright watermark in the lower left belonging to someone else, though?

The background of that picture is a photograph of a large radiotelescope array, and the photo is watermarked :-(

Because I used a photo as a background, because I am a hobbyist doing this for fun not money.

And what about those who catch a quick, fleeting glimpse of colorful faery magic, just once - maybe only in a dream - and spend the rest of their lives trying to experience it again?

Maybe one day I'll draw that too...

It's a very common theme in folklore, but I'm quite curious (and eager) to see how you express it in art!

The easiest vbut perhaps not the most imaginative way would be to draw someone haunted by 'ghosts' of fairies, translucent images.

But now I want to think of a more imaginative way to do this.

The image that came to me was of a very mundane-looking human, sitting alone and reading a book about the Fae, with a wistful expression on zir face. Behind and above zir, unseen, is a small but bright-colored firefly fairy, about to dart away...

But I'd very much like to know what you see!

I think I love the second one most, but the Minoan one and the last make me so happy, too.

I have to admit, the second one was one of those where the first image, the dancing doll, rolled off my fingers, and then I just saw the rest and it all came together.

Hee, my little Blueberry Fairy dude. I drew him to label food with but he lends a certain cheer/assurance of nutrition to this assemblage. :D

Sweet! The second is my favourite but they are all wonderful.

I dunno if it's just my display but you may want to resize them. I can't see the whole thing at once.
