Today I took a ride in a Tesla. I wish I'd had a chance to write notes during/after the ride. What I remember now was the relative quietness of the engine and the lovely effect of the entire roof being transparent.

Kudos to everyone involved who isn't the Muskrat.

I feel a bit bad for the Tesla, as its story somewhat recapitulates that of its namesake/name-donor.

It has no combustion engine; they designed it to make noise only so pedestrians could hear it coming. It’s well designed from what I’ve seen.

A few years ago I got a ride to a Pagan gathering with a woman who drove a Prius. It felt a bit strange - the sensations of motion were unfamiliar. And it was quiet, and she barely had to buy gas. I'd need a test drive to decide whether I'd feel okay driving one.

My current family car, and the two before it, had sun-roofs, but I never bothered. I think I would find a completely transparent roof a bit startling, especially with a full Moon in the sky. (Or I could attend a fireworks display inside a heated/cooled space and see the pretty lights overhead without feeding the local insect population.)

Wait, a transparent roof? I have never seen that on a Tesla (or anything else).

I’ve seen some pretty concrete disparagement of the engineering, though.

It really does.

I don't like it because of how digital the thing is. Though I will say that the quiet ride is lovely.

Yeah, that is a thing. But that, I think, is outweighed by the autopiloting tech they are (ha) piloting in it.

It has a lot going for it. One of which is autopiloting. Right now it's just on main roads-but I'll be interested to see where it expands to later on.

I've never been in a Tesla, but BYDs are pretty good. And have really good voice recognition.

I've ridden in my sister's Telsa a couple times and driven it briefly. Not a fan of all the controls and instruments being on a touchscreen, but otherwise it's pretty impressive. And it really does throw you back into your seat when when you floor it, or even not quite floor it as I did.
