minoanmiss: a black and white labyrinth representation (Labyrinth)

[Edited -- cellphone typing is prone to typos.]

So people will actually tell me what I need to know . No wonder they aren’t renewing my assignment. I just fucked something up AGAIN. because of something no one told me AGAIN. and everyone here thinks I’m stupid. I’m not stupid. That is the one thing I’m not. [bit of vicious self deprecation edited out by the posting fairies] But I cannot use intelligence to counteract ignorance of this system when no one will tell me what is going on

To make a long story short. Someone used term x which I understand to mean Nake A kind of appointment. But they meant Make B kind of apppintment. And now the patient is furious and I broke down and cried till I nearly threw up.

How do I persuade them to actually train me at the next place instead of just deciding I’m worthless and stupid?

You are intelligent and that sounds like a TERRIBLE workplace if they expect new employees to simply know procedure rather than be trained. I know you wanted it to work out, but if they can't manage to train people, what else are they screwing up for their employees?

You are worth every happiness and every blessing.

Whew that hurt to read you say about yourself, and I bet it hurt to type. Please stop hurting yourself.

You are a delightful person who deserves the grace of acknowledging that you can't get everything right if you haven't been trained. And you know this but don't seem to believe it. I know they are acting like you should gather procedures out of the ether, but we both know that doesn't work.

I don't know what the magic words are, but if after your next job's training you are feeling underprepared, perhaps you can ask if there's any documentation for your work that you can also review. Or even, "my last place of employment had several unwritten rules that everyone was expected to already know. Can you think of any examples like that in this place that I would be better off hearing now? I am not good at picking up subtle clues that aren't part of my formal training."

You are not stupid! Far from it. Far from it.

A question I would consider asking is: where can I look things up, and whom can I ask if I can't find the documentation? Show that you are trying to help yourself and not bug them but if they won't tell you what you need to know, you're going to have to ask. You can throw in a "because doing right by our patients is the top priority" for good measure.

{hugs}

It's absolutely not your fault that you were unable to divine All The Rules somehow, or absorb proper procedure by osmosis from the vibes. Employees shouldn't have to be psychic in order to do their jobs correctly. You are smart, experienced and capable, but you were not set up for success in this position. They failed you, not the other way around. *hugs*

*hugs* you are not stupid! what you are is ill-trained, and that's on them. you don't deserve this sort of crap at all.

assuming there's no one there it is possible to talk to about inadequate training (and it sure sounds like there isn't), that is definitely something that the assigning agency needs to know about. do you have someone you can tell now? if not, then talking to someone once your assignment ends needs to happen - bc it's most likely this is not new, and it'll happen to the next person as well.

the suggestion by [personal profile] libitina and [personal profile] cellio above are excellent - asking upfront about additional training documentation, or the the stuff "everyone knows" sound like good proactive steps to me

How very weird that they devoted really substantial time to training without consciousness of its inadequacy.

A hideous situation.

...or perhaps _they_ need to figure out how to teach people what they want people to do--this appears to be a recurring pattern at this workplace, from what you'd mentioned in your posts--

--and, honestly, I've not heard of a Dr's office before where one has to _come in_ to make an appointment (if I correctly understood something you mentioned some while back)--

in short, the place sounds like a right mess!

Argh. How infuriating and stupid it is. It'd be far more efficient for the employers to spend a modicum of time making sure you know what to do....

I can only suggest a handy notebook in which you write down everything and your every response to it, though that sounds like a right pain, because that might make the gaps in training more obvious.

Offers *hugs*
