Oh the year was 1120 BC,
How I wish I was in Skyros now!
An apple came from the Goddess of Strife,
For the fairest maid in death or life,
God damn them all,
I was told wed sail the seas,
For Laconian gold,
Wed burn no ships and shed no tears,
Now Im a broken man on an Ithacan pier,
The last of Memnons privateers!

Oh Agamemnon cried the town,
How I wish I was in Skyros now!
For twenty brave men, all warriors who
Would make for him the Achaeans crew,
God damn them all,
I was told wed sail the seas,
For Laconian gold,
Wed burn no ships and shed no tears,
Now Im a broken man on an Ithacan pier,
The last of Memnons privateers!

So I lay here in my 40th year,
How I wish I was in Skyros now
Its been twenty years since I sailed away,
And I just made Ithaca yesterday,
God damn them all,
I was told wed sail the seas,
For Laconian gold,
Wed burn no ships and shed no tears,
Now Im a broken man on an Ithacan pier,
The last of Memnons privateers!

I like what there is of it but I want the Circe verse and the Cyclops verse and the Lotus-Eater verse and the Scylla and Charybdis verse and and and

When people write filks of epic songs about epic stories and there are only three verses, I doubt their commitment to sparkle motion.

(I do not want any of them enough to write them, dammit.)

It might be that this is all the fickle Muse sang before darting away. If this were mine I'd want to have done at least ten verses but I often let the best be the enemy of the good.
