Entertaining, but I can't believe no one pulled anything with dihydrogen monoxide. Am disappointed.

Yeah that post was a mixed compilation of “good” ones and bad ones and of course many get mislabeled


I should have put more context in my post. I don’t play pranks. I did one once that worked ( it involved dihydrigen monoxide) and that’s sufficient. But I like reading about the good ones narrowly defined.

When I worked in a school, I put up a fake flyer on the faculty room fridge telling people to beware of dihydrogen monoxide coming out of the taps.

The science teachers laughed The history teachers laughed The math teachers laughed. The physics teacher especially gave me a very proud look. The oldest literature teacher laughed. The other literature teachers and the Latin teachers and the other admin staff all started worrying. My boss to buy bottled water before I stopped him and explained.

It was GREAT.

Something sort of pranky

Back when I was project lead for a onetime startup that had recently been subsumed into a larger company, and CD burners were a new thing, we had just approved our first release in this new environment. Having burned the master CD to send out by way of the home office, and being a bit punchy from it being late at night after a decent period of long hours, we were all of the mind that a little fun at the expense of the recipients would be worthwhile.

With how often people had started burning CDs to play on their computers or portable players, we brainstormed something that might lead them to suspect a mixup and provide evidence of questionable musical taste. After some discussion, the initial release was labeled "Best of Barry Manilow". And it was only until later that people wondered about the parent company being Canadian would affect that jest.
