minoanmiss | Major move

My almost-former room looks so empty now, just a pile of trash and a very lumpy mattress (I had not realized how valiantly the futon frame had evened it out) However, the apartment is still being prepped so I really couldn't inhabit it yet.

However, with the planned help of WD and the impromptu help of TL [1] I had two strong dudes move the vast majority of my stuff over. Gentle Giant sent two knowledgeable movers over, albeit an hour early -- their phone call woke me up and I had to decide between an hour early or possibly waiting till 4 PM. So I picked early, and then scrambled to get dressed while TL kindly let them in and showed them two of my three Heaps O' Belongings. I managed to combobulate myself enough to tell them about the third in my bedroom, including that I wanted to take the bedframe but leave the mattresses behind, which they took with relative aplomb.

I can definitely guarantee I have no bedbugs, because if I did, they would have fallen out when the mattresses got flipped wholesale in the process of extracting the frame. Ahahahaha.

The poor movers had a bit of a wacky customer moment from me when I called them to make sure they hadn't driven away on the way to the storage place [2] and they had to ppint out that a moving truck has to take a different route than a small car, even across such a brief distance. ahahah whups. I gave the keys back and got a big hug from the facility manager, and have a photo and a receipt saying I left the storage unit empty and clean, woot.

So off we went to the apartment. It's still being worked on, as I mentioned before, and as I type this I realize I forgot to take a photo of the back enclosed porch so I could ask advice on good wys to use it. I also just realized my stuff went down in the same tripartate structure, living room, kitchen, bedroom. ahahaha.

The final total was $200 less than the quote so I guess my disorganization this morning didn't detract too much from my previous work to try to organize. I feel like such a grownup, hahahapfft. WD and I grabbed some food, gave away some food, and now I am in my soon-to-be-former bed about to take a nap. I hardly carried anything but I feel quite worn out. And a little bit accomplished.

Next: going over the house for random stuff, amassing one last bag for the pantry, jobhunting assiduously, and hopefully getting to start unpacking next weekend. But first sleeeeeeeeep.

[1] TL said that she had planned to attend and help with the move, and I said, "I don't know if I'm more grateful or insulted," at which she laughed. ;)

[2] The storage place is in the next block over from the townhouse complex I'm departing. I had actually thought it was closed until

summercomfort helped me with a bit of research. It's very much open and quite well run! *waves gratefully*

Woo-hoo! I'm glad the major portion of your move went well, albeit earlier than you had planned. Good luck with the remainder. I always find that the last 10% of a move is 150% harder to deal with than the previous 90%, but at least you have a plan, and most of the work behind you. Happy landing in your new home!
