drunk and happy and accomplished. I made lunch/dinner/whatnot for WD, and in turn he fed me a bottle of sparkletudinous wine, and we had a wondermous time.

You know, it's really nice to honestly be. good at something. Not everything I ever make turns out, but in general I have an excellent understanding of foodstuffs and how to prepare them. In the new year I intend to cook for other people more often.

Not to insult you, but if typos are a symptom of being a little tipsy, take my advice: Take an advil and a big cup of water BEFORE you go to bed, and perhaps a bit of fruit and/or an egg as well.

I know exactly how you feel. I love cooking for other people, because I know I'm good at it, and people always compliment me on my cooking and tell me how much they enjoyed it. And that makes me feel all warm and appreciated ;-)

It's tempting to try to put together a complex and unusual meal, while staying within the boundaries of "things they like", but it's often a better idea to stick with the simple familiar things, except done with far more care and mindfulness than most people have ever experienced. Popovers aren't much harder to make than toast, but serve someone fresh popovers hot from the oven, and plain scrambled eggs (and bacon, if they're goyim), and they'll think you're the reincarnation of Julia Child :-D

I love to cook and bake for other people. Cooking and baking for just me isn't nearly as satisfying.

It is good to make things, to like them, and to have others like them. Still better when you can enjoy them companionably, and when they build life so directly.
