I really think this is a former mafioso spending his time in the Witness Protection Program by making beautiful botany videos in the dry California mountains. I cannot get over how often he says things along the lines of "beautiful fucking lily" and "there's a lot of volcanic bullshit here". I adore it when people pepper precise parlance with profanity.

(This video is kind of long, he has shorter ones. This is just the one I'm watching at the moment.)

I've never been anywhere near Mount Shasta, but I'm a new-age creep in purple pants and a purple shirt (I don't wear robes in public very often).

This is fucking amazing and I need to send it to a friend of mine who's a botanist. What an accent this guy has, and what a way with words...

Thank you. I love that video. I like geology and I like botany and I'm big on wildflowers, so there's that.

But I think that even if I weren't much interested in his subject material, I would be transfixed by how he loves what he's talking about, especially the flowers. (I love it that he's not into grasses, but he's trying, too.)

An accent may tell something about what a person is likely to have experienced, but it tells nothing about what the person hasn't experienced-- it's a big world and we are blessed to travel widely and encounter so much, actively or vicariously, through videos and books. And an accent tells nothing about what a person loves.
